project_
Grace Valley Center
the site presents Grace Valley Center’s work and helps find monthly sponsors for vulnerable children in Zenica. it is available in five languages and designed for low maintenance costs.
inside the product_
how the system works
from what people experience to what keeps the product running
the site detects each visitor’s language and opens the matching version. search engines receive the correct relationship between all five versions.
shared goals and amounts live in one place. one change updates every language without finding the same number in five different files.
pages arrive as ready-to-read HTML, while donations use services that need no custom server. this lowers cost, maintenance, and exposure to attacks.

why it was built this way_
important decisions
the choices that shaped the experience, operations, and product boundaries.
each person finds the right language
the site detects the visitor’s language even without JavaScript. search engines also know which version to show in each region.
update information only once
values and goals stay in one place. changing a number updates all five versions of the site.
receive low maintenance donations
the current donation channels need no custom server, and the site is ready to add card payments when the NGO chooses.
treat the images responsibly
each image has its own description and focal point. because the project involves children, every photo is also reviewed to decide what can be shown safely.
